Soo, G., Tong, M. C., et al. (2009).
Otology and Neurotology, 30(4), 496-501.
Added: July 2011

Description
This is a prospective study of 11 individuals with hearing loss status post radiation for nasopharyngeal cancer. This study examines the benefits from a bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA) for postirradiated patients. Assessment after the BAHA placement included pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and patient satisfaction analysis.

Conclusions
  • Along with improved hearing outcomes and a reduction in otorrhea, satisfaction with the BAHA was high.
  • "Average percentage satisfaction score of the patients with the BAHA was 84.4% (4 mo, 81.8%; 8 mo, 87%; 12 mo, 82.2%; 24 mo, 86.7%)" (p. 499).
